Kvass, Borsht and Salt Fish: What Dishes of Don Cuisine Foreign Fans Enjoyed

The foodservice industry of Rostov summed up its operation results during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

During the international championship, 270,000 visitors from various Russian regions and abroad came to the Don capital.

Judging by overall feedback and posts, the city impressed fans with its tasty food, friendly service and hospitality.

“Visitors appreciated products unique for them, such as kvass (a fizzy bread drink) and borscht (a kind of a sour beetroot soup), local fish was also well received. Many brought home kvass and salt fish to give as presents. The central market was the principal destination for foreigners, they visited it as the city's most prominent attraction, and it boasted an abundance of seasonal fruit and vegetables,” said Irina Telarova, Director of Consumer Market Department.

Meanwhile, Victor Goncharov, First Deputy Governor, underscored that foodservice is one of the most successful and forward-going industries in the Rostov region.
