Publichka

Rostovites gave a warm and homey nickname to the Don State Public Library – they call it “Publichka”. It outgrew a traditional concept of the library long ago. Now it is an informational, social and cultural center.

The public library is the oldest and largest book depository in the south of Russia that boasts unique items in its collection. People come to Publichka not only to read a well-loved book in silence but also to visit one of interesting events: a film festival, an exhibition, a lecture of representatives of artistic and cultural communities.

Bibliojazz is its unique signature event. Jazz is popular with local residents, and for ten years, the incendiary music has filled the cinema hall of Publichka. The concerts involve famous musicians, as well as the best creative groups of the Rachmaninoff Music Conservatory and the Rostov College of Arts under the direction of the project’s thought leader Adam Teratsuyan.

Publichka attaches particular importance to exhibitions, they are often held one right after another. These can be solo and collective exhibitions of pictorial art, applied arts, children’s drawings, photo exhibitions, themed book expositions. Everyone will find an exhibition to their taste.

You should certainly explore the modern aspect of Publichka.
